Jeffreys Bay got its name from Captain Jefferys in the 1840's and is well famous today for its surfing. Every July the Billabong Pro Surfing Contest takes place, when surfers from all over the world Tahiti, Australia, Brasil, etc visit Jeffreys Bay for a two week period. Lots of guesthouses are fully booked and Jeffreys is a buzz with all the foreigners, enjoying surf, sand and sunshine. The best waves running along the Point are known as SUPERTUBES.
Jeffreys bay has become a popular holiday destination due to great swimming beaches, the main beach has Blue Flag Status. The Kabeljous area is more quiet and ideally for fishing and walking with dogs along the beach.
Jeffreys offers great fishing spots, hiking trails, mountain biking, 4 x 4 routes, windsurfing at Aston Bay Lagoon, scuba diving, etc. Papiesfontein is famous for horse riding and visitors can enjoy horserides along the Beach.
Jeffreys bay area is also famous for it's calamari / tjokka industry.

Billabong shops, Jeep shops, etc. All big retail shops, like Edgars, Foschini, Truworths, Legit, Woolworths etc. are in the Fountains Shopping Mall.
