It is close to St. George's Hospital, an excellent private hospital, the St. Georges cricket grounds, which holds many sport events, the Nelson Mandela Art Museum, Oasis medical center and St. George's Park where the all time family favorite "art in the park", that is held on the first Sunday of every month. Who knows, maybe you could even participate in selling your crafts and hobbies! A great stress reliever! This area is quiet and peaceful, yet it is close to everything essential, for example schools, businesses and lots of shops... You will have the best of both worlds! Another great aspect of this part of town is the rich culture and history that took place. This could be perfect for those who take an interest in history. This fort was used by the British to keep the Baakens River safe in 1977, and as the name suggest, it was named after the Duke of York. It was also used to send English troops to support the Graaff-Reinet rebels to stop the invasion of the French. No shot was ever fired from that fort in anger. The fort is free to visit from sunrise to sunset every day. Another place of interest is the Donkin reserve where the large stone pyramid was build in memory of Sir Rufane Donkin's wife Elizabeth. Our city, Port Elizabeth, was also named after his beloved wife.
