OYSTER BAY
Oyster Bay is situated about 15 Kilometres West of St Francis Bay and Cape St Francis, as the seagull flies... This is where the Fynbos and ecologically sensitive dune areas of the Tsitsikamma National Park starts. It has a 5 kilometre sandy beach with rocks on each side. It vibrates a serenity and peace found many times only in retreats or desolate places.
Here one again feels small in realising the larger nature of things. It is not so much knowledge, than awareness, that nature gently changes one. Here is a total, peaceful silence to be found behind dunes and in the wild surf. It is a perfect start for daytrips to Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve, Baviaanskloof, Cape St Francis or St Francis Bay. Activities include hiking, fishing, relaxing and sunbathing.
Because of natural reasons Oyster Bay can not expand over much and will retain the 'small coastal resort' atmosphere for quite a while. This makes the investment potential so attractive. More and more people are realising that small is beautiful. A big percentage of the upcountry citizens are migrating to the coast in summer to de-stress and re-charge their batteries, successfully. Our season is stretching from November into January and that trend will continue, for as long as there are players in the 'rat race'.
The road to Oyster Bay is a reasonable 25 Km dirt road and the fun of being 'away from it all' starts when one enters that. If you travel on towards Cape Town it is another 25 Kilometres to the N2, thus creating a shortcut to Storms River Village and mouth. The last is an experience not to be missed. Storms River Mouth is in the Tsitsikamma National Sea Park and the walkways and trees there are not to be missed. There is a boat that takes one upriver to view the caves and the river. And so one can go on and on about things to do around Oyster bay and its environs. |
